Linux Day Install Fest, 29th April

Eighth Layer was one of the sponsors for the Linux Day Fest
at Exeter University.

As Simon is the contact person for the Devon and Cornwall
Linux User Group, Eighth Layer ended up organising far too
much of the event. Still, things went smoothly, and a good
time was had by all.

We still have lots of surplus Mandrake 7.2 CD's for anyone
wanting to try Linux.

New Member of Staff for Eighth Layer

Eighth Layer is pleased to announce the recent appointment
of Faye Northan, who will be our new full-time General
Manager.  Faye, who as Company Secretary has been involved
with the development of Eighth Layer since its founding in
December 1999, has in-depth commercial experience in sales,
marketing, customer service and office management from a
variety of industries.

Eighth Layer has recently made arrangements to become a
re-seller for firewalls. We look forward to presenting our
new product range to you in the near future.

Cyberattacks Threatened against Neo-Nazi Sites

According to the online edition of Der Spiegel, an official
from the German government recently confirmed that Interior
Minister Otto Schily is considering using spam in his battle
against neo-Nazi web sites.  Nazi sites could be flooded
with information requests which would paralyse the web
server, and would also be faced with a DoS (Denial of
Service) attack, backed by the government.  Such a cavalier
attitude regarding jurisdiction sets a bad example.

If you already look after your own Linux firewall, you may
be interested in the new H323 masquerading module from
CoRiTel Consortium (although we haven't as yet had chance to
test it ourselves).
